31 Days of Joy: Have Patience

“Biblically, waiting is not just something we have to do until we get what we want. Waiting is part of the process of becoming what God wants us to be.
― John Ortberg

Have patience.

So, you may be at a fork in the road of your life right now. Whatever your dilemma may be, you must make a decision. Will you be patient and wait on God, or be impatient and act on your own will? All over the Bible there are stories of men and women experiencing tough decisions, and the reactions vary from all of them. Some grumbled against God because of lack of water (Exodus 15:24), others worshipped God in trials and adversity (Job 1:20), others cried out to God in despair (Psalm 18:6), and the list goes on. Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind. Having patience means that we are going to wait and rely on God’s timing. In Scripture, God consistently rewards those who patiently wait for the fulfillment of His promises. Patience teaches us to rest in Him, even during the storms of life. We all struggle with "waiting on the Lord," even if we know that "good things come to those who wait." But if we choose not to wait, 1 Samuel tells us that a "lack of patience" can also cause us to miss a blessing. When we praise God in our waiting, He gives us the strength to keep going. Be strong enough to let go, and patient enough to wait for what you deserve. The longer you wait for something, the more you appreciate it when you get it. Any blessing from God is definitely worth waiting for.

Focus Scriptures:
Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
.
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalm 130:5-6
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
