31 Days of Joy: Have an Attitude of Gratitude

“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.”
― Cynthia Ozick

Have an attitude of gratitude.

Anything good that you have has come from God. You didn’t get it by luck, ingenuity, hard work, wit, or wisdom. It is proper to be thankful to God for every good thing in your life. You’re not just simply to be thankful one day a year. One day is not long enough to thank God for all that He’s given you. His blessings come daily. Every day God has brand-new blessings for you. Every prayer that you pray ought to be salted with thanks. Every morning when you get up, instead of fretting and complaining, instead of turning to the media to see how bad everything is, just go and look out of the window. Take a deep breath and say, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” It makes you feel better just to think of doing that, doesn't it? How much better it will make you feel if you follow that practice every day! Thankfulness should be a way of life for us, naturally flowing from our hearts and mouths. In everything give thanks. Not in some things, but in all things. Every thing, every area of life is to be a the subject of thanksgiving. There’s so much to be thankful for. Be thankful for spiritual things. If you didn't have anything else but Jesus, you would have enough to praise God for all eternity. Be thankful for the simple things. You should be thankful for your families, health, food, and even a glass of water. Even be thankful for the sorrowful things. You can even be thankful for the heartaches, the pains, and the sufferings because Romans 8:28 says, “…All things work together for good…” Although the situation may not good, it is God Who is working all things together for our good. It is God’s will that we “give thanks in everything”. All of us have simple, beautiful things that God has given us, which we can appreciate. Open your eyes and see that God “does wonderful things without number” every day! Thankful people are joyful people.

Psalm 107:1
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Joy in Action Today:
Start a gratitude journal. Each and every day, write down one thing you are thankful for. At the end of each day, read each entry. Give God thanks and praise for all that He has done for you. Continue doing this daily.
